Hello, does anyone know if theres been any progress done on fixing this problem?

Try adjusting your texture settings in both the game and the video card settings.

Problem is now solved. I was browsing EA's offical C&C3 boards to see if anyone had the same problems as us, and some did, and someone also figured out why this was really happening. It looks like its caused because My Documents is not on the C: drive (Which for me it wasn't, i have My Documents on its own partition). As soon as i restored the default location, everything started working. Heres the link to the EA forums http://forums.ea.com...s...282&start=0

Yea, I try to play Skirmish and then in like 10sec after the game has started... The game just crashes and sends an error report to MS. Is that the problem you fellas have been having?

Ditto on that, i cant play skirmishes anymore either, EA's patchs always suck.
That mydocuments stuff didnt work either, that folder is on my C-Drive and still no luck. This all started after the newest patch, go figure.

Sorry to come back to this topic so late on...

But I thought I'd add that I've experienced the same problem, everything running fine except Skirmishes.

I created a new Administrator user account and ran the game from there (I didn't need to reinstall) and it worked, the game runs perfectly now.

There have been mentions of the Documents folder having to be on the C: Drive, and funnily enough my documents are stored on my D: Drive, so whether there is a correlation who knows.

But it does seem like an 'odd' sort of fix.

Having the exact same problem as you guys, but on Battlefield 2
tried almost everything including
- nvidia drivers
- realtek ac97 audio drivers
- cleaning swapfile
- running game as admin (EXE properties)
- checking firewall / AV software and adding specific rules
- nForce drivers

my setup
motherboard : MSI K8N Neo4-F bios (bios v6.00, I believe) see link on topic
Vista Ultimate 64 bits
AMD X2 4200+ (no OC)
2 Gigs RAM PC 3200 (default timings, even tried 333MHz freq rather than standard 400MHz)
Geforce 8800 GTS (forceware 158.24 WHQL and OFFICIAL)
nForce4 drivers v15.00

symptoms: complete system freeze
event viewer shows message "A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (BF2.exe)" around the time of freeze

Hope this helps find a pattern
Laters people

Well for me moving it back to C: drive made it work, so that has to be one of the reasons, but then again if you do a second account it plays fine with My Documents of a second partition.

Yep.... I got mine working as well.

I had my Documents/Music/Photos etc on a different hard drive. If I set the Documents folder to the default, it works. Obviously creating a new admin account has the same effect (well, before you change the Documents link, at least!)

As someone else said, it's an interesting fix - maybe EA should pay more attention to code quality than aggresive marketing deadlines.

I to receive an error message in c&c 3 I can play skirmish for about 5 minutes and with the campaign it plays the movies loads the loading screen but as soon as i click play it displays the windows vista command and conquer 3 has stopped working message i have tried the 1.5 patch and am yet to try the 1.6 patcch if you can help me please do.

here are my specs

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000)
System Manufacturer: Hewlett - Packard
System Model: HP Pavilion dv600 (GG183PA#ABG)
Processor: Intel® Core™ Duo CPU T2350 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs), 1.9GHz
Memory: 2038MB RAM
DirectX Version: 10

Video Card: Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family
Chip Type: Intel® GMA 950
DAC Type: Internal
Approx. Total Memory: 224 MB
Current Display Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor

I took my computer to a local computer shop and their computer guy said that these specs are more than enough to play C&C 3.

I there anyway someone could e-mail the 1.04 pacth for C&C3. I am at a location that blocks the sites that would allow me to download it?

I having a problem with my game as well. Whenever I start a scirmish I can only build the power plant and as soon as I do that the game freezes and goes to the desktop. Whenever I try to start the campaign, as soon as the video finishes it freezes and goes straight to the desktop. I am hoping that loading the patch will fix that and I am going to try making another user to see if that will work.

I had similar problems when I first began to play C&C 3 on Vista. I did some troubleshooting and discovered it was because of my Nvidia video card. I loaded up the latest "Beta" version of Nvidia drivers...and all my problems vanished. In fact, I can now play several other video games that I had crashing problems with before the driver change.

if you have an Nvidia video card in your rig, make the change to the beta drivers from here:

http://www.nzone.com...betadriver.html

I still have problems with Battlefield 2142 though...damnit!!! I can only play one round before the game crashes with a memory.dll fault. I have seen many posts about this, and many solutions, but none of them work yet. At least if you have a Nvidia card. Luckily I have a removable swap drive. I just swap out Vista for my XP drive and I can still play BF 2142

Hello all...

I'm not sure if this issue has just faded away for most people or if there's a fix I can't find, but I have more or less the same symptoms everyone has already described...using a system covered by most of the variations listed in the thread.

I hadn't used C&C-3 for a long time, but picked it up again when I wanted to learn Worldbuilder. Seemed to work fine on my very-beginner style maps, but now I'm getting that sudden, seemingly random shutdown. I took my custom skirmish map down to the very most basic level (a 200x200, 70 border, 8 ft. height map with only two player spawns, skirmish AI, and no textures). Playing with starting resources at 40,000 (no tiberium to mine), I found that I could play through and create just about everything just fine -- if the difficulty was Medium-Balanced. It would run until I won / gave up the fight.

Every single time I set the difficulty to Hard-Balanced, the "stopped working" crash happened -- usually within 1 minute of match start.

I haven't tried every variation of graphic settings, enemy choices, or other difficulties. But I thought I'd pass the observation along, paired with a ping of the topic as to whether anything new has come along to solve the problem. I already tried the "new admin" option, new nvidia drivers, and a check for patches. But maybe I've missed an update or trick somewhere...?

Thanks...

I am having the same problem. I have updated all my drivers and have made sure everything is running ok.

the event viewer error I am getting is:

Faulting application cnc3game.dat, version 1.0.2588.1237, time stamp 0x45ea8522, faulting module d3d9.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a65d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00189c39, process id 0x16f4, application start time 0x01c93ff0fe768733.

my system is:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs)
2GB RAM
Video Card: Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family 256MB

I have also tried running it in Windows XP mode, and I am the admin on my computer but nothing is working. i also installed the patch but it didnt do anything for me? im a bit sus about the video card but it does meet the specs and the game is running up to a point, then crashing

if anyone can help thatd be much appreciated

have the same problem, with C&C 3, KW and RA3. skirmish crashes to vista ultimate's desktop. i can play campaign and tutorial, but not skirmish ofr network games. i could play KW when i ran xp but since i've been runing vista i can't play. every other game doesn't have this problem. oh yes my specs: q 9400
hd 4870
4 gigs of RAM
vista ultimate.

oh yeah i think the problem is that i also have 2 seperated hard drives. C: and D: . c is an OS disk, D: is data disk. now i've moved my documents to D: so save games file are created there for every game...

as i've seen previous posts i think that's a problem not with my hardware, because i had the same config on win xp.

if somebody has the same issue with ra3 or installing whole game on data disk helped, please reply...
