is this getting to be a pain in the neck when installing almost all themes, like getting a "theme could not be applied", or just not plain appearing when clicking them?

out of about 10 I manage to have 1 working...barely.

I must admit i find that strange as mine work fine , Cant understand it why maverick and yourself are having problems ...Is anyone else having problems with themes ? The only problems i have with aero is when i enter a site on the web that doesn't support aero and my theme flicks back onto basic in a rather unflattering way .

After I downloaded the theme and put it in the theme folder, when I right click and go to choose the color scheme, the themes are not showing up in the list. What do I do?

I installed the patches and followed the instructions... then i extracted a theme to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes, and then opened Personalise > Window colour and appearance > but what exactly is "Open classic appearance properties for more colour options"? I dont see anything like that and I can't choose the theme...

Is there any other way or did I do something wrong? thanks.

yup. you have to re-do the patches and everything, but it worked just as easily as pre-sp1

Hey guys, i installed the take own file but it don't appear any option to take full control of the files in the system 32 folder. What do you suggest, and how did you do it??

Please respond...

You could do it manually have you followed the take ownership instructions correctly?

okay, i think i've done everything right, but it's not working, so i guess i haven't :(

here's a step by step list of my progress, if anyone can help me i'd appreciate it

1. Login as a user with Administrative privileges -or- have Administrative
credentials ready (check under the keyboard for a slip of paper). - done

2. Navigate to %systemroot%\System32 - - done, i think. i'm not sure what %systemroot% is, but i opened my system32 folder

3. Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties. - done, but i don't see the need to click properties. once i shift-right click the 'take ownership' option is already available

4. Take ownership of the file and close dialogs. - done

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll - done

6. Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties. - done

7. Give yourself (or group) Full Control permissions and close dialogs. - done, again i think. full control seems to be the default position, am i wrong here?

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll. - done

9. Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old. - done

10. Rename themeui.dll to themeui.old. - done

11. Rename shsvcs.dll to shsvcs.old. - done

12. Copy patched files into %systemroot%\System32 - done, i guess. i moved the files into my system32 folder, is that the same thing?

13. Reboot (yes, this is really required) - done

14. Enjoy! - I'M NOT ENJOYING THIS

after i did all that all i get is the default themes in the appearance settings, even after i installed a few new themes (macforvista, vistaxt ver 2.0, couple others):

Does anyone know of a uxtheme that works with SP1? I did a google search and there are some, but I don't know which one to try.
