I have been looking for a solution to this problem since the day after I got my 8800 gtx. I found out that someone in my old css clan also had an under-preforming 8800 gtx. I had heard that he had fixed it when I talked to him I very soon realised he had not. Benchmarks are more than double current fps benchmarks we are getting. the problem seems to be more on the 8800 gtx cards.. If you have a 8800gtx or any 8800 card that is under-preforming post here...
Now the problem itself:
The problem might be the drivers as a lot of people are hopeing. Now that the drivers have been updated and the number of under-preforming cards is going down we start to see that Vista seems to be the Leading trouble maker for the 8800 card..
Vista ?
Some of you may think no way I thought the 8800 was designed for vista and dirrect x 10... It now seems that nvidia might have to seriously work on the next drivers for the cards to fix this problem. As more than half of the under-preformance problems are on Vista operating systems.
The first problem with the 8800 cards... When the card first came out I decided to wait... 1.I knew the price would go down soon enough. 2.There was a powersupply issue with the card. The minimum powersupply unit that can power a 8800 is a 450 w power supply.(according to Nvidia) However very quickly a problem came up... people with 500 w powersupply where reporting under-preformance from their cards. Word went round that powering the 8800 would take a powersupply of 600w preferably a 700w. At this point I thought i would be Ok as I have a 650w powersupply unit. I went on holiday and when I came back the number of under-preforming cards had gone right down and I still couldn't find out if the problem had been solved or what.
My Computer and Problems ....
Ok, this may not be imformative to any of you at all and I may be compltly wrong because i happen to know that my old card(ati x1550 connect 3d) was also under-preforming when I first got it. I treid to run cs1.6 I got a fps average of 24 ... After a while of tweeking and pointless restarts and other procedures I mangaged to fix the problem and my fps went right up to the max that is set at 100 as defult. The only problem is that I can not remember how I fixed it.... When and if I remember I will be sure to post here so check from time to time on this post.
Any solutions would be greatly apreciated ...
