Privacy issues aside, I'm not feeling that Vista is meeting my search needs.

Am I missing something with search in Vista? Is Google Desktop running well on Vista?

Privacy stuff aside (it's a non-issue for me) is there any reason not to run Google Desktop?

Resurce hog? Makes computer less stable? etc

Thanks

The built in Vista search / indexing stuff is basically Google Desktop, just built in. I ran it on XP and it ran fine and Dell is packaging it in with their vista builds. It does run fine, but you shouldn't really need it.

Ok, I'll mess around with Vista search a little more and see if it seems to do right.

I'd rather install less stuff if possible.

Thanks.

I had Google tool bar once..but apparently its just another medium for spreading spywares and stuff..
i liked it cuz of the easy search and word suggestion..i got rid of it anyways

Yeah, I know about the search box, and it works great for web searching.

There's another app called Google Desktop, which more or less uses the Google search algorithm and creates a fast index search on the contents of your local drive. It wasn't the Google Toolbar, but rather it's own application. Hitting ctrl twice quickly pulled up the search box. Since search in Windows XP was so useless it was a godsend, but, Vista search is supposedly greatly improved over XP.

Google Desktop is almost required for XP users.
