So as outlined in the sticky the menus in Battlefield 1942 aren't working properly. Basically I can't really click anything as it were, as 80% of the menus don't show.

I attempted installing the 158.24 drivers (if I remember correctly from the other thread) from nvidia, but it came with this message:
"the nvidia setup program could not locate any devices that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now close"

I'm running a Nvidia 8400M GS.

Not sure why you're getting that message. Have you installed the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard?

You might try using the latest Nvidia Beta drivers instead: 158.45

As I mentioned in the other topic, I had this same issue until i upgraded my graphics drivers. Hopefully, once you accomplish that, your problem will be solved. (Y)

How do I go about updating my chipset drivers for my motherboard (like, finding out which ones I need etc.)

A couple of options: Go to your motherboard manufacturers website and download the latest drivers for your model there.

Or, if you know that your motherboard uses an Intel chipset, just go to intel.com and grab the chipset update utility. Link here.

Thanks, I've updated those drivers.
I tried to install the graphics card drivers again and I'm getting this message:
"Setup detected that the operating system in use is not Windows Vista [32 bit]. This setup program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on Windows Vista. The installation will be terminated."

Hi are you sure that you got the right version I mean if your OS is 32bit have you downloaded the 64bit?

It's definitely the 32-bit installer. And I definitely have 32 bit Vista :(

Yikes... weird stuff. When you tried to reinstall the graphics card drivers, did you perform an uninstallation first? Also, which driver version were you attempting to install?

Try this: Uninstall all graphics card devices. Restart, and cancel the automatic device driver installation if it starts up. Then, try to install the latest driver set (158.24). If that gives the same result, try the same process but with the Beta driver set (158.45).

Good luck (Y)

haha - again, thanks a lot for the help.

Two questions:
1) How do I uninstall my graphics devices?
2) Should they be automatically re-dected? My question really refers to the likelihood of this not in fact working and me being a bit stuck if you know what I mean, haha.

1. Right-click Computer and select Manage. Click on Device Manager. Expand the Display Adapters tree. Right-click your listed graphics device and select Uninstall.

2. If you let the autodetection proceed, the previously-installed drivers will be installed. While the possibility of messing things up further does exist, we can't figure out the solution without taking a little risk. Always a good idea to back up critical data before making major system changes.

I still get this message:

"Setup detected that the operating system in use is not Windows Vista [32 bit]. This setup program and its associated drivers are designed to run only on Windows Vista. The installation will be terminated."

Confusing!

SwingKid,

Your problem is that have a laptop video card (Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS) and Nvidia's drivers are only designed for the desktop models. But, there is a way around this: download these laptop drivers (clicky) from LaptopVideo2Go.com.

Let us know what happens; there has to be a way to fix this. (Y)

I installed those drivers succesfully, but there's no difference in the game.

Uninstall those drivers. Then try these drivers: Link here.

Right click Modded Inf and save, download the drivers then use the QuickStart Guide to learn how to install.

Hopefully this will work - I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Right, weird - I did that and became unable to play Bf1942. As in, it wouldn't even start.

Uninstall those then install these ones: http://www.laptopvid...showtopic=13687

The drivers I have linked you now to do not require any special steps to install as they are mobile drivers - just install them.

So sorry for the confusion... I never noticed the "M" in your video card specs!

Those recent drivers didn't work either. :(

Got the same problem

Just bought a laptop with Vista home prem. Have a Nvidia Geforce Go 6150, tried using the latest drivers from Nvidia and got the same "not a 32bit Vista system" (even though i am, according to my PC property's). Re-downloaded the file hoping human error played a factor, then and tried again, no dice.

Does anyone know if BF1942 video and audio settings can be changed in a text file in windows like some older games used to be able to.

Just a thought: Have you tried running the driver installation file(s) as an Administrator?
