DreamScene Info

You can download a fantastic array of dreams for DreamScene over at Stardock's Dream Gallery. Note that the majority of these files will require Stardock DeskScapes (which is free).

Also, if you are posting a dream, please be sure to add the prefix [Dream] to the beginning of your topic title. This allows members to find such topics easily. Thanks!

You can use VLC Media Player, it has a function to do video desktops and because the Vista desktop is a 3d application this should have no more impact than dreamscene does. There is also an option to loop the video. This is much better than using cracked and hacked and potentially trojan laden copies of dreamscene and it's totally legal.

Instructions :

Quote

  • Download VLC Media Player from this site and install it.
  • Change the “Video output module” to “DirectX video output” by following this guide.
  • Play a video file of your choice. Now click on Video menu and select Wallpaper.
  • If you want to loop the video then Click on View menu and select Playlist. In the Playlist dialog, select the file and click on the icon “Repeat one“. Close the Playlist dialog and enjoy!

There are, of course, hacked versions of dreamscene floating about on the interweb, these are warez and as such are not allowed to be discussed on these forums.

does anyone know anywhere where i can get some good free video from that would actually work well with this, eg something similar to what you can achieve with DreamScape.

Id prefer to have something that looks smooth even when its on a loop, eg i dont really wanna put a video on my wallpaper on a loop if you can easily see where it finishes cos it like jolts back to the start or everything changes suddenly or something

Three problems with this method.

1. VLC disables Aero
2. VLC has to run minimized. (This also means it won't run on startup)
3. You have to adjust the aspect ratio by trial and error for each video

But it was cool though. I got a feel of what it's supposed to feel like. Sort of.

Propobly, but as a free tweak this is not bad... I think, have not tried it yet.

Just tried this. It's not bad, but Dreamscene is probably better.

How did you do this? I tried and I couldn't find the Wallpaper option from the Video menu......

And also, does anyone know where I could get a free Video file to try out on this?

P.S. I accidentally deleted the free Videos that came with Vista by default :P
