Hey Guys,

I just installed Vista x86 on my computer.

When I play music my sound skips pretty frequently, maybe every 10 or 15 seconds for about a half a second to a second.

Very anoyying, not sure why it's doing this.

It tells my all my drivers are up to date ( processor, video, etc )

I am using the Plantronics DSP 500 Headset.

It sees it as speakers but I dont think that's the problem.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

It's not only music, but all sound, i can also see my mouse skip at the same time

I have noticed during installing something it happens ALOT when many multiple files start installing fast.

Why does it do this?? anyone else having this problem??

ya got realtek ac97 too but I am using DSP 500's connected through USB,

I have tried Realteak AC97 onboard, DSP500's thru USB, and Soundblaster Live Vista Driver,

ALL of them skip.

So it seems to be a hardware issue.

I have the AMD 64 3500+

and x800 PRO

Did anyone notice that sometimes when you go over the some icons, the screen flickers a bit? And I think something's wrong with some of the icons; they're not there. Especially the 'Computer' icon, and some others.

Here're a few caps of what it looks like:

This is definitely not what I anticipated it to be... :(

GOOD NEWS I FIXED THE PROBLEM!

HERE IS THE SOLUTION -

install the SATA/IDE drivers that came with your motherboard (prolly came on a disk) or DL them from the website.

The stutter is because of the Vista SATA/IDE drivers being not totally compatible with the operating system.

This fixed it for me!!!

Good luck guys!

By the way I really think this fix should be bulletined because I bet many people are having this problem

Hi, i just registered, great forums.

I had the same problem, the sound was skipping for no apparent reason. I have an Nforce3 250 Mobo, so there is no official drivers or beta (yet...) for Nforce3 Vista users.

I read somewhere (maybe on this forum?) that Vista drivers were not so much different than XP drivers. So i tried the "NVIDIA nForce3 250 Parallel ATA Controller (v2.6)" and "NVIDIA nForce3 250 Serial ATA Controller (v2.6)" from the nForce XP drivers and it installed flawlessly! So no more skipping now. :)

I just wanted to add I was having this same exact problem with the sound skipping. I actually have the Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic but Vista won't pick it up as a sound card (installed fine, shows up in device manager as working, but Vista says no audio device installed). So instead, I'm using my onboard sound (Realtek AC97). I was getting skipping every 10-15 seconds and it seemed to get worse when the CPU was in use.

I have the nForce4 X16 chipset. I installed the Windows XP x64 (IDE and SMBus) drivers and the sound skpping went away! Not sure how the drivers installed since I thought Vista was completely different but it worked. ;)

I wish I could get my Creative X-Fi to work though...

Have any of you looked at taskmanager while you were having these problems? Usually when i experience what all of you are describing, its cause explorer is being a rescourse hog. I noticed that explorer can grow to use up to 954mb of ram, and my page file grows to a lil over 2gb, im sure it would use more but thats all the hdd space i have left on my 14gb partition after vista was installed.

I have a problem with the sound not working also, some stupid bug, to fix it i right click the volume icon in the tray and go to audio devices, double click volume control, click the options tab and select either cd or dvd quality and click test. that usually vcauses the sound to start working, hit apply and you should be up and running again. I usually have to do this about 25 times a day.

Have it at home, however the Dell Dim 3000 I have at work had all drivers found by beta 2, and has onboard sound:

No skipping at all.

It may be because it is not running aero glass, however it is running the beta 2 installed HD IDE drivers, go figure.

Reinstalled beta 2, had skipping on the audigy 2.

Took out the NVIDIA Display driver, lost hi res, but skipping gone.

Redetected the NVIDIA card 6600 series, and still had skipping.

then I went and reinstalled the present available Creative Labs Vista Beta Drivers, and REBOOTED.

No skipping.

No touching of the SATA / IDE drivers, are still all Vista Loaded.

A happy camper am I !

after hours of trying to install the sata and ide drivers, i had to give up due to vista rejecting all the drivers i have downloaded and have on disk, so i will have to live with the sound glitches untill microsoft sort out the problem themselves, the joys of computing ..............
