Hi all not sure if this has been mentioned but there is a Vista Hotfix avliable that has sorted issues with most graphic cards, many Vista users have had problems with memory issues and how certain programmes and games use Video memory in Vista.

Please read below for more details, I found this mainly applies to NVIDIA users but the fix will work with other cards

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105

http://www.nvidia.co...a_hotfixes.html

Hotfix for GeForce customers running DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 applications:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105. This hotfix resolves abnormal application behavior such as crashes and extremely low frame rates when running some 3D applications at very high graphics settings. This issue is not limited to, but has been most commonly noticed on high-end graphics cards and the following applications: Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Civilization IV, Company of Heroes, Half-Life 2, Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II, Supreme Commander, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas.

In order for this hotfix to be effective, GeForce customers must also update to the latest ForceWare Release 163 drivers:

Windows Vista 32-bit
Windows Vista 64-bit

2) Hotfix for SLI customers running DirectX 10 applications:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936710. This hotfix resolves occurrences of low frame rates on some DirectX 10 applications when SLI is enabled. Performance improvements will vary depending on the application and the graphics driver version.

3) Hotfix for GeForce customers:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194. This hotfix improves the compatibility and reliability of Windows Vista. It can be downloaded from this link or from Windows Update.

4) Hotfix for GeForce customers:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979. This hotfix improves the performance and reliability of Windows Vista. It can be downloaded from this link or from Windows Update.

Yeah I had to validate when downloading the patch from MS, but I think the KB940105 is just a general Vista fix when I checked on the MS site but please check on the ATI site for more info I have not checked on ATI yet.

By the way the last 3 that were mentioned are only for SLI and Geforce users the first one is a general Vista patch just make sure you get the right one there is a 32bit and 64bit patch

2) Hotfix for SLI customers running DirectX 10 applications:

Are you running 32 or 64bit Vissta ?

You may have downloaded the wrong one just check again, is this message coming from the kb940105 when you tried to install?

Also I forgot to mention if the update is installed correctly you will have to restart and then run the latest graphic driver again for the fix to work.

I noticed no actual performance improvement but I don't get that memory error message when playing BF2142 now that was the only game I had problems with.

Does this fix anything with the ATI RADEON X1200 Graphics Card? Lately I've noticed a lot of issues with this card but other people havn't, the specs and model number etc of my notebook are in my signature. I've got a 56K Modem so I don't want to waste a big download on something I can't use :P

I don't think nVidia GeForce drivers will help an ATI Radeon card in any way.

So the answer would be; this is completely useless for you.

Go to ATI's website if you want to download drivers for your ATI card, it's as simple as that.
