Since I installed Vista Ultimate my computer is very slow. When i want to start a program, i sometimes have clicked 3 times, because it takes so long before anything happens.

The new Nero 7 program especially is very slow so very frustrating.

When I check what my pc is doing I found there is a program running in the background SeachIndexer that uses all the CPU capacity. I tried to stop it. When I do, it starts again in a few minutes. It never stops, but goes on and on.

I like Vista because it looks so good, but I guess I will have to drop it and go back to Win XP.

I have an AMD 64 bit processor (not a 64 bit Vista) and 1500 ram intern memory.

Any suggestions that might help me hang on to Vista would be appreciated

Get the AMD 64 Driver for your CPU...
It will sort it out with a bit of luck...also cheack your Mobo BIOS and update...
I will have a search for you and come back with the link
*EDIT*
Have a route here for your driver..

Alsio check your RAM set up...ie are they in the right slots to allow Dual Channel...

My cpu usage was always at 100%, I found out it was caused by some awful HP software which was constantly using 40%

Are you using HP software by any chance?

I'm having the same problem with mine, but the cpu list isn't showing any large numbers. I included to screen shots of my Task Manager. See?

iTunes was doing that for me, might be that some applications are causing a memory leak or something, best to see if you have any running.

I checked but there's none that's showing at a lot of activity. (Edit:) After doing a really confusing scan, System Idle Process jumps up from 24 cpu to 98 cpu. What is it?

But I do have a lot of svchost.exe running.

Those apps run the services on your computer, you will need to download process explorer so you can hover over that one and see what services it is connected to:
