When I install SWAT 4 I get gibberish in certain places (happened on Age of Empires III install, as well), when ends with the game installing, but without registering itself to the system, and with gibberish file locations.

Example:

After filling in my CD-Key information I get this as the Destination Folder:
C:\Program Files\COMPANY_SHORT_NAME\PRODUCT_NAME

I also get gibberish when I uninstall it with something like:

IDS_uninstall_blah_blah or something like that with a check box near it.

This same thing happened with Age of Empires III. Any suggestions?

I run these system specs, if it matters:

GeForce 8800 GTS
Core 2 Duo 6600
2 GB DDR2RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 32x

Edit: This error during the install also makes it impossible to patch the games. They say the install is wrong (or something like that), and to try reinstalling. Reinstalling doesn't work, it still has the gibberish.

this happens to me during installation too.
you need to install swat4 on an xp computer, then transfer all the files over. you can patch on either, but you must install on a non-vista operating system.

hope this helps.

I highly doubt that will work since you don't have the registry entries for your CD key check and such...

What you need to do after install on vista is the following...

Change the "COMPANY_SHORT_NAME" folder to "Sierra" (no quotation)
Change the "PRODUCT_NAME" folder to "SWAT 4" (no quotation)

If you want to continue using your shortcuts in your start menu you will also have to update those to the new path.

Next:

Hit the windows key + R to open the "run application" prompt, and type in "regedit" to open your registry editor.
Open the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Open the "Software" subfolder
Open the "Sierra" subfolder
Change the "PRODUCT_NAME" subfolder to "SWAT 4"
Change the entry "InstallPath" to "*insert your installpath here* (for ex. c:\program file\Sierra\SWAT 4\)"

Next apply the 1.1 patch, it should work now.

Just to let everyone know, this method still works as a fix to those trying to install this game onto Windows Vista.

Thank you very much for your support.

I uninstalled SWAT 4 in an attempt to clean up the registry and try reinstalling afresh. However, when I tried to install again I got the same error where the default directory listed was 'C:\Program Files\COMPANY_SHORT_NAME\PRODUCT_NAME'. Could someone please tell me why it wont list the actual default directory that it used to when I have installed this game in the past? I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

In addition, when I used the fix mentioned above, I am able to install SWAT 4 and the past provided on the expansion, but then when it comes to entering the serial key for the expansion it doesn't accept my valid key, which has been accepted in the past.

I would be most grateful if someone could please help me resolve this issue.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
