HP a6200n
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2600Mhz
2GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium

Just purchased this system 3 days ago.

I have been downloading and adding some programs and applications (itunes, Google Earth, Quicktime, etc. - nothing out of the ordinary), but now, the "spinning blue circle" next to my mouse pointer will not stop spinning. It spins perpetually on a regular cycle; that is, every 4 seconds it spins for about 1 second - and repeats over and over.

This happens even if all apps and programs are closed and my mouse sits quietly on my desktop.

I've tried rebooting, defrag, etc., but can't get it to stop.

Again, there are no unusually taxing programs loaded, and no peripheral devices that would burden memory.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

i did a norton scan, ad-aware scan, and spyware doctor scan. problem still there. the only thing that has changed is that i have added a few programs such as itunes, google earth, and picasa. i uninstalled all new programs, but problem is still there. i can't believe i am the only vista user in the world that has this problem. weird. thanks for your suggestion.

Looks like an app running in the background. Maybe one of those you've installed.

Check in the startup list, and un-check some.

I don't know if this'll help, but when I tried installing iTunes on my computer, a problem arose that prevented the installation from completing. That left a bad taste on my tongue. I uninstalled the program, which was easy since it never completed the installation. Why don't you try going into safemode by pressing the F8 button during bootup and use system restore to back off each of the new programs you installed. It looks like one of the programs you uninstalled left behind an Easter Egg for you to seek; good luck.

Well it does sound like there is a program running in the background that explains why the cursor is constantly spinning because the program is constantly working in the back ground, press crtl, alt, delete at the same time and check the task manger for any high running tasks
