Get them while they're hot !!! Most people may want to go down the Windows Update route as the download is a LOT smaller, grab it here. For the standalone package (around 450MB), Most people will want the 5 language pack which includes English, German, Japanese, French, Spanish.

You can obtain the update from Windows Update.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32Bit.
Should I get this RC now or wait for the final version? And if I choose to install it, will I encounter some problems after the final release comes along?

Hey,
If you do choose to install the Release Candidate, you won't have any problems upgrading to the final version of Vista Service Pack 1. It should run through normally through Windows Update. As for wondering wether you should download and install the Release Candidate, It's up to you but I recommend it. It seems to be running quite smooth at the moment, everythings going strong ^-^

You won't be able to just upgrade to the final, this is the same as the beta versions, when you want to upgrade you will need to uninstall the RC version of the service pack. You can see the entry in your "View installed updates" under the "Uninstall a program" section in the control panel. See the attached pic.

So, when the final is released you should be able to just click on uninstall (which will take about as long as the install did) and then wait a couple of hours then install the final version.

I say wait a few hours as a lot of testers (including me) had trouble upgrading to this version cos they didn't wait long enough apparently.

MS will take your feedback if you post it. A Release Candidate (RC) is a pre-release of a final it's pretty much just to make sure all bugs are gone before a final. This RC everyone is invited to use it and you can choose to post feedback about it or not.

Points to note this is still a BETA as far as I am concerned and by what it says here theres no point in installing it now because you going to have to re install it anyway when the Final release comes out, so I will be waiting as MS say this should not be installed on the Main computer as this is intended for testing

Windows Vista SP1 RC is time-limited software.

Windows Vista SP1 RC will no longer operate after June 30, 2008 and should be uninstalled prior to that date. After installation your desktop will show the text “Evaluation Copy”. This does not mean that your system is no longer genuine but that you have installed a test version of software which is time-limited. The “Evaluation Copy” text will appear on your desktop after the second reboot after installing the service pack. Likewise, the “Evaluation Copy” text will remain on your desktop during the first reboot after uninstall the service pack, but will disappear after the next reboot.

If you install Windows Vista SP1 RC it is strongly recommended that you install the final version of
Windows Vista SP1 when it is released. To do this, you will be required to uninstall this RC version of Windows Vista SP1.

May as well wait for SP1 to be fully completed and released.

I like it, I think it's good. I've noticed a difference in large file transfer speeds and a program hasn't stopped responding on me yet. Also my network connection seems to be a lot more stable now and have only suffered 1 disconnect.
