Can I run a dos based game in Vista? I want to download and play Stonekeep again. You may have heard of it. It was released in 1995. At the time, however, it was a GREAT game, and I would like to re-visit it. The thing is, it was written for DOS.

Heh, You can try. I really wouldn't expect it to run, but stranger things have happened.

If I ordered it for $10 it would come as the original cd version of the game. I dunno, I would like to try.

Yeah, Dosbox is a godsend when it comes to getting really old games to work. I've gotten through all of Realms of the Haunting with Dosbox on Vista. Comparability with DOS era games is pretty good and it's still an ongoing project, so it's likely to get better. You can check compatibility rating on the Dosbox site, just go to the games section and search for the desired game. Chances are, if someone had it and played it with Dosbox, then they left a comment.

I play Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Prince of Persia (the original DOS game by Jordan Mechner), Tomb Raider (the very first game), and Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame in my Vista. The 3 Doom games run with my Doom95 engine, while the other POP2 and Tomb Raider in DOSBox. I'm planning to replace the 3 Doom95 engines with DOSBox, since what the Doom95 engine does is let the player skip levels which is a major spoiler for me since I haven't finished any of those games lol (the only DOS game I've finished is Prince of Persia).

In short, DOSBox's the best. :dribble:

I can't get DosBox to work. It is so confusing to me.

I have been running DosBox for Wing Command and Privateer. Works great I modified my conf file to auto mount my drives so it sees everything from start up.
