There's another issue that's come up for me in trying to get the game to run. After p: c: etc., when you get to cd warcraft II, DOSBox displays the message "directoryname is longer than 8 characters and/or contains spaces." Is there any other way of going about getting getting the program to recognize that there is, in fact, a cd in the drive?
Hey, i was reading all the answers on this forum cause i have the ms-dos version cd of warcraft II Tides of darkness, i used to play it alot on my windows 98 quite awhile ago and wanted to play it again. (i actually also have the playstation version as well but i always felt it was so much easier to play with a mouse in your hand). So i looked around and saw i needed an emulator to play it(wonder if windows 7 has solved any of these compatibility problems?) So i have DosBox and i tried for awhile to get it to work through there, however, to actually install the game i don't know how to do because i have 64-bit and it tells me it is not compatible with that disk when i click install after the warcraft screen pops up. So i eventually had to give up and just download a copy of it so i could just have it in the directory installed already. Not sure how to get it to run off the cd still. But i did successfully get it to run once i downloaded the torrent of it...came with the expansion as a bonus too!
Oh and thanks nailthatmonkey (lawls at the name) your posts above helped alot in getting all that done. But if i can help anyone further would be glad to since i got mine to work
Currently running Vista Ultimate (so i think i got all the problems versions covered cept for seven still not sure if it works or not)
1st step: get DosBox (i'm too lazy to post the link just google web it and get it and if u can't do that the go outside and play instead lol
2nd Step: find a copy of warcraft to run (i will post this link though)
http://thepiratebay....The_Dark_Portal
oh and btw this page also has some good advice on it for running!
Idk if u can click so just copy paste and download, its a torrent so u also have to have a torrent downloader such as Vuze for example, again to lazy to explain but i'm sure u can figure it out
3rd step: unrar the file you just downloaded and to make this all very easy so it definitely will work for everyone i'm telling you what to do not making suggestions from here on out, you can always mess with it once you actually have it working
Then move the file that u just unrared (it should be called WarcraftII) right inside the C: drive on your computer...not in any other folder just in the C: drive that's all and to make this even easier for later rename that folder to simply warcraft
k now before you run this in dosbox there is one other problem that i ran into which of course is the OMG PUT THE FRIGGIN CD IN THE FRIGGIN DRIVE WARNING annoying but easily fixed...fyi this fix will be near the end just incase u don't need to do this
4th step: open DosBox and type in mount c c:\warcraft\
that will mount that folder that we renamed and should be in your C: hopefully, if not again please just go outside and try to catch bugs or somthing
Now type c:
this will take u to the folder you just mounted
and then type war2.exe
and then tada the game should run!!! should mind u i said should were not done yet for most i'm sure like i stated earlier there are some bugs that need be fixed
ok IF you get the you need to put the cd in the drive warning do the following
1. Open War2.ini in your Warcraft2 dir
2. At the top of the page, there is CDPATH=
3. Change it to read CDPATH=C:\
this is just in the warcraft 2 folder, you will find it if u keep looking its just like a readme file when u open it and just change the very first line to read exactly what it stats above
K so this is really long but will get most if not all of you playing the game i will write back later with anything else i think of!!

ninja?...hmm sure why not lawls
