Now sorry if anyone has found out how to play it already, but I was getting the error on the game where the splash screen with the horner reaper would appear.. then would crash and a black box would be in the corner of the screen for about 15 seconds then close.

I found a fix! I was messing around with things and found a way to get it to work!

So I was just confused, because me and my friend have different laptops, mine is a 8200m g, his is a 8400 gs. His laptop would play dungeon keeper, but mine would just crash! I was baffled by this, so we were looking what was different in our computers. At first we noticed that in the msconfig, the startup for nvidia was different! Mine was Nvidia compatable windows vista driver, his said Nvidia compatable windows 2000 driver.

I don't know if that was the problem, but that confused me.. I'd actually like some clarification on that....

Now for the fix!!!

1. Download and install the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit.
2. Install it, and open the Compatibility Manager.
3. Hit the 'New' button.
4. Right click - Create New - Application Fix
5. Name it Dungeon Keeper, Vendor Bullfrog of course.. For location choose the Keeper95.exe
6. For the 'next' screen, dont choose any compatability modes, and no check marks out of the ordinary on it.
7. After you hit next again, look through and find 'ForceDirectDrawEmulation', leave everything else as it is.
8. Save the database, right click it hit "install" and run dungeon keeper!

This fixed my problem, now the game runs perfectly on my laptop!
This was tested on my laptop (Athlonx2 ~1.9ghz, 2g ram, 8200m g, Vista32)

Sorry if this fix was already said, but I searched EVERYWHERE for how to play this and nothing came up! So I hope this helps someone who loves this game as much as I do!

Yay for almost pointless posts.. lol jp jp.

Dungeon keeper is a great RTS game, developed by bullfrog before EA turned them to crap.

Lookie Here http://en.wikipedia..../Dungeon_Keeper

Its basically my favorite game of all time. And, as you can read by my first post.. many vista users have been having issues running it.
I finally found a way to run it.. sooo yeah.

It's always fun to play the bad guy every now and then, which is what this game is : )

Great to hear you got it to work, I tried your fix though and the same thing happened. Screen popped up with an image of horny then it crashed. I tried it on the 3d version of the game and it crashed without even opening. I have an Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS.

Scratch that, I just remembered to turn off the programs compatibility settings and the "Run this program as an administrator" tick and it worked great. On an even better note it also works for the 3d version. Thanks for your help, now I just need to get DK 2 to stop crashing. Fixed that too, had to run it as an administrator, set compatibility for Windows XP 2 and (most importantly) turn off acceleration and set resolution to 800X600 in the games options menu. Been a good day.

Yes... I also had loads of fun trying to get DK2 to work.

It eventually came to a problem with my sound card on my old laptop! Disabled a setting and it worked haha

I had DK2 running on vista easily because there are custom installs out there (the games are considered abandonware and can freely be modded)

DK2 Isn't too stingy on getting running, just vista does not like having the hardware acceleration on. DK1 on SOME computers is a pain in the butt to get working though.
