I have a problem with internet connection. I'm using siemens gigaset usb adapter 108 and when i connect it, or when windows starts, i see the message "limited connectivity or local only",then i cant get internet conn. or access to my router. Now I manage to connect after several attempts with hope that windows will force it to start but i'm not sure that this will last long. in device status window is the message that this device is working properly but when i see the limited conn. window ,device status message is " this device cannot start", or something like that. I tried to reinstall windows vista and back to xp , but there is the same problem. any help would be appreciated !

Try reinstalling the latest drivers. you probably wont get Vista ones yet so use the XP ones.
A. Burn drivers to a CD.
B. Make sure the USB Adapter is plugged in before starting up PC.
C. Reset your PC so that Vista can find "New Hardware". (You may have to uninstall the the device from the device manager first)
D. Use the option to find drivers on CD - leave out the Online search.
E. With the driver CD in the drive let Vista find and INSTALL drivers.
F. Let us know how it goes and what if any errors come up.
G. Good luck :)

Edit: I see the driver at there site comes in an exe file that thankfully extracts to a selected folder. The link to the driver set is here >> http://shc-download....1_0_1_4_eng.exe
Burn the extract files to the CD not the exe file ;)

Well,i do that but windows can't recognize any drivers on cd. :( When the usb is plugged i have no problem with installing the drivers that are on original cd and i think the problem is in my network config. or something else ,not with hardware. I have the laptop also , but with XP , with the same drivers and when i plug the usb adapter,i'm getting the same message - "limited connectivity" or "not connected". To establish the conn. i must unplug the usb cable and plug it again,because only than the windows see the network in range . More ideas ?

I have that driver and the one released before that ,but the same error appears when device don't want to start(after win. restarting) and than there is the message "this device cannot start (code 10 )". But when i re-unplug it, it's starting without problem. The second problem is "limited connectivity",than device message is that device is working properly . What's wrong with this device ?!

I'm not 100% sure... but this could be due to it trying to connect to an IRQ that is being used by another piece of hardware in your machine. Try looking at the IRQ settings for the device.

It seems to me be related to ipv6 and not a real "limited connectivity" problem

seems most machines cannot implement it yet(ipv6)
Youre Ipv4 should be working

also try and disabling IPv6 in services

ipv6 is disabled,ipv4 is working normally. i think that maybe this device using more power than usually,because when i connect other hardware in one of usb ports,this device is starting with that error code10 . or other hardware using that IRQ settings,which i don't know where to find. can you point me to that settings ?

I can post Belarc report here if someone can understand it ? If something with my system not right, maybe someone else can see from that report and help me find the reason of this error code 10. Thank you!

hey angie i had the same problem with my Dell Wireless 1500 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card. what i did was i simply reinstalled the XP driver. the only problem is that whenever i restart the computer and i want to use the internet i need to reinstall the driver each time. i remember with XP there was a way to disable windows from configuring the network whereas you could use the driver given by the manufacturer. if anyone knows how to disable windows from automatically configuring the connection, please share

and came again on the ipv6
=============================================

Hi. I have a really annoying problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000z laptop. Its running Windows Vista RC2 and cannot access the internet. The driver has a "!" in device manager and the error message is code 10. Also, the Local Area Connection (ethernet) option has disappeared. Are their any drivers out there that will fix this problem or will I have to revert back to XP? My network card is Nvidia nForce Network Controller. Thanks.

Re: nForce NIC driver error (code 10) Vista RC2- cannot access internet

Somehow the code 10 error disappeared, but now my ipv6 connectivity is limited. In other words I have an ipv6 address, but no ipv6 default gateway or DNS server. Can anyone help?
============================
X -> Just disable the IPv6 few actually need it yet

Goto -> services

start run type services.msc

find tcp/ipv6 . stop service and set disabled

u might also need to stop the dhcp(service (of vista ))

and

Disabling IPv6

Unlike Windows XP, IPv6 in Windows Vista and Windows Server “Longhorn” cannot be uninstalled. To disable IPv6 on a specific connection, you can do the following:

In the Network Connections folder, obtain properties of the connection and clear the check box next to the Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) component in the list under This connection uses the following items. This method disables IPv6 on your LAN interfaces and connections, but does not disable IPv6 on tunnel interfaces or the IPv6 loopback interface.

To selectively disable Pv6 components and configure behaviors for IPv6 in Windows Vista, create and configure the following registry value (DWORD type):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents

DisabledComponents is set to 0 by default.

The DisabledComponents registry value is a bit mask that controls the following series of flags, starting with the low order bit (Bit 0):

Bit 0 Set to 1 to disable all IPv6 tunnel interfaces, including ISATAP, 6to4, and Teredo tunnels. Default value is 0.

Bit 1 Set to 1 to disable all 6to4-based interfaces. Default value is 0.

Bit 2 Set to 1 to disable all ISATAP-based interfaces. Default value is 0.

Bit 3 Set to 1 to disable all Teredo-based interfaces. Default value is 0.

Bit 4 Set to 1 to disable IPv6 over all non-tunnel interfaces, including LAN interfaces and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)-based interfaces. Default value is 0.

Bit 5 Set to 1 to modify the default prefix policy table to prefer IPv4 to IPv6 when attempting connections. Default value is 0. For more information about the prefix policy table, see Source and Destination Address Selection for IPv6, the February 2006 sourceThe Cable Guy article.
