Since installing FireDownload from here: http://www.fireaddons.com/ I am getting insane download speeds. Speeds that I shouldn't be getting. I had one HTTP download sustaining speeds of 2MB/s, my connection speed should only allow 1MB/s. I will do further testing and post back.

Edit: Just an example. I downloaded Untangle 450MB from SourceForge in less than 5 minutes:

imageremoved

I tend to neglect DL managers after Orbit hooked into my Browser and completely effed my downloading. So I would love to hear back what kind of a review you could do on this :) thanks.

I wouldn't expect this to mess up your browser at all. Since it's a Firefox addon it's very easy to remove or disable. Another thing is that FireDownload doesn't automatically affect your downloads which is nice because then you can choose to use FireDownload or not. After installing the addon you get a new option in Firefox's right-click menu:

Also I wouldn't consider it a download manager. Firefox continues to manage the downloads. FireDownload only accelerates them. I've always avoided download managers/accelerators because I dismissed them as digital placebos. The reason I downloaded and installed this addon is their website. I thought their website was pretty. I also like trying new addons even if I remove them a week later.

Since I started testing it I have seen improved download speeds. Greatly improved. For example the link I'm clicking on in the screenshot above. I downloaded it without FireDownload and it started at 34KB/s and when it completed the speed was 200KB/s then I downloaded it again using FireDownload and it started at 980KB/s and finished downloading at 700KB/s. It also only took 5 seconds to download the second time around. It took near a minute the first time.

I'll be keeping this addon.

Thanks :) they still haddn't sent anything :D and holy *bleep* I'm getting 3 MB/s lmao. Is this for real? and no it's not just showing me fake speeds, files are actually being downloaded completely. Firedownload has Rakastaa's vote.

EDIT: 10 Minutes later after a silent update. It's not compatible with Version 3.0.7

****ing firefox and all it's annoying updating all the time. Ffs!

I just want to say this firedownload is amazing. I am getting 3 - 4 megabytes a second. However its differing lots. Sometimes only 2Mbs but that is still better then the usual 600KB/s I am getting.

However I still have not been able to download a SINGLE file with firedownload. Shortly after posting my first responce I realised that the download was stuck at 99% and just sitting on a speed without moving at all. This happens to all my downloads with firedownload. They are fast as hell but none of the files download completely. When DLing from an upload host like rapidshare or megaupload if you use firedownload the download wont even start at all. It just sits on waiting for information. This is really sad for me because the speeds are amazing I just can't end up finishing the file.

So I uninstalled this add-on. Thanks for letting me try it out anyway.

Yeah you can't use it on Rapidshare or Megaupload. They throttle bandwidth.

It sucks that your downloads aren't finishing. Mine start and finish at high speeds.

Recently installed a new Addon. I've known about this for some time but didn't realize it's worth till today.

IETab - Can be used to switch current tabs to IE tabs. My particular use for it is accessing an internal Sharepoint site.

I use the following:

Downloadhelper 4.5 - downloads stuff that has media on the page
Forecastfox - tells the current weather in your local area
McaFee Site Advisor - checks sites for problems
No script 1.9.5 - prevents unnesary advertistments, or scripts not need for page to run
skipscreen - alternative to getting a premium account on sites like megaupload, rapidshare, zshare, ect. Skips through the waiting and goes straight to the download.

Seems you're all beginners. :D ;) See my Add-On Collection which bloats my Firefox and today sent me to 1.200 MB Memory Usage! :D Currently there is a memory leak somewhere (I think it must be SpeedDial), yet I'm wondering why the developers don't get it together even after years to close such annoyances! O.o

Hasn't Firefox slowed down just a little bit after installing so many add-ons? Heard performance degrades. :P

I would never have that many addons, I like to keep to what I use all the time and nothing else otherwise Firefox would take an age to load. <_<

Support for that is coming in Firefox 3.6.
