I've been looking through t'internet, trying to find some solution to this problem for a while now- I've tried pretty much everything, but nothing seems to work.

First off, I know with almost 100% confidence my pc is good enough to play both games- Athlon 64 3800 processor, 2GB RAM, 7600GT gfx card, oodles of HDD space and all drivers, to the best of my knowledge, up to date.
Now, the issue I have is this- I've recently installed BF2142, as an administrator on my PC with Vista Ultimate 32 bit installed. It's all genuine, and the download went fine. I can play the game without admin priviledges, but can't go online due to PB. When I tried playing online, it kicked me off, so (following advice from this site) I tried upping my admin level, using right click and then the "Compatability" tab admin thingy, and also tried changing the compatability mode to XP, 2000 and even ME... In fact, when I tried running in compatability mode, it didn't even register my disc...

None of these remedies seem to work, and I'm really at a loss with what to do next...Any ideas, guys and girls? It'd be much appreciated!

Hi, by the way!

Hi! And welcome to TVF.

Have you tried disabling User Account Control? Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn UAC on or off.

Also, you'll need to make a trip to www.evenbalance.com to manually update your Punkbuster files. Click the link for the game you want to update, then click the "Software Updates: Download" link. Download and run "PBSetup.exe" and then manually add your games and update the PB files for each. (Y)

Just gave it a go...Disabled UAC, restarted PC, then downloaded PBSetup.exe and updated the 2142 files.. Now, without admin mode, I keep getting the "The program has stopped working" error message...

Annoying, to say the least.

Huh, the message you're describing indicates an actual crash... not just Vista & BF2 not playing well together.

So, anything you could possibly recommend? I swear the game used to work online, a year or so ago...

I used to play Battlefield 2142 myself. If PB started kicking me out of the game; I exited the game and ran the game as an administrator. So instead of disabling UAC, try to run the game as an administrator.

Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 icon and click on Run as administrator.

I could never get the game to work properly gave up a long time ago but I still have it installed on XP, the punkbuster issue just got to frustrating getting kicked all the time, however when playing in single player mode it ran smooth as it did in XP

can you be sure the files from that website are secure? and when i log in, it says that my account has been restored to it's previous settings, will i have to find a way to get around that or what? because i ran bf2 after turning UAC off and punkbuster still kicked me.
