Okay so, before you post anything, please state whether you know this for sure or not.

I heard that there's another DirectX 9.0c for Vista, 9.0L or something.
I'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

What version of directx am I supposed to use for games?
When I go dxdiag, says I have DirectX 10 (I have not installed any manually!)
Although when I try to start any game, it asks me to download DirectX.

Please link me to the directx version that I'm supposed to be using!

You can get the latest DirectX update here:
http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en

DirectX 9.0L was the internal name for Direct3D 9Ex during Vista's development, L standing for Longhorn, Vista's codename.

I did that now, but it still says directx isn't installed...

What do you mean DirectX is not installed? The version you have downloaded will only update components that need updating.

Direct3D 9EX is used for the Hardware Accelerated Interface,'Aero', in Vista. DirectX10 is the version used by games and it will run DirectX 9 Games as well.

I installed what he said, it finished without problems. Then I rebooted, and it still asks me to install DirectX.
I thought there was no games compatible with DirectX 10.
(It does show I have DirectX 10, but it doesn't work with the game?)

It may help to tell us what game you are trying to run, it may have issues running on Vista.

Fixed it, just had to go properties and change compatibility to XP SP2 and it works.
