I would like to address some issues that I don't believe others have mentioned in this thread. I would suggest that Windows 7 would definately be worth buying, IF your hardware is adequate now and for the near future. If you are currently running Vista this will probably be true. But there are many users who have not upgraded to Vista and are wondering if Windows 7 is a viable option on their hardware.

Be sure to check that your hardware meets the minimum requirements for the edition of Windows 7 you are contemplating. Windows 7 may very well run with less but you probably will not be happy with the result.

If you are contemplating upgrading your hardware you must be certain that this can be done at a reasonable cost. The most common and cost effective upgrade is RAM. Most people on this forum would say that RAM is cheap, but this is not always the case. Some types of RAM (DDR) are no longer in production and can be quite expensive. Unfortunately, DDR RAM can not be replaced with the newer and cheaper DDR2. Check the cost of any upgrade, do not assume.

Even if you are running Vista is pays to check compatibility. Most hardware that is compatible with Vista will work with Windows 7. But not all.

Microsoft has made available a program to check this compatibility:
http://www.microsoft...51-2497c146af15

Note: XP requires that the .NET 2 runtime system be installed. This is not installed by default on XP.

This will warn you about most common hardware or software incompatibilities. This is particularly important with laptops or if you are upgrading to a 64 bit OS. This is important, even if you are contemplating a clean install. This would be the preferred option, and necessary if you are running XP.

Yeah I've had the RC since it came out and it's ran way better than any other OS released by Microsoft to date so buying it is a must!

I have not had a single issue

I had used the student download at 741.com I think it was, got the upgrade for 29.95. I still have some work to do to get it the way I like it, have not really played with it. Was not happy at first because it wiped my machine when the upgrade said it would not, but I will work with that and get what I need back. I have noticed that the fan does not run as loud, maybe due to lack of running processes.
