I received an email from the Windows Live Team today, saying that a new version with improved security was "just released", and saying that it was time to update to the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. Clicking on the link in the email brings me to this website: http://windowslive.c...sktop/Messenger
Now, thinking that i should check the version numbers before going ahead with the upgrade, I opened up my current version of WLM, clicked Help -> About Messenger, and saw that I am running version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726).
Back on the Windows Live website, I searched for some shred of proof that an upgrade was available. But, there is not a version number listed anywhere on their website.
Giving up on finding the version number online, i downloaded the latest installation file, wlsetup-web.exe. I checked the file version on the Properties tab, and sure enough, it's the exact same version number of what I have currently installed - no upgrade necessary. Thank you Microsoft for making life difficult.
Has anyone else noticed this weirdness? Why doesn't Microsoft advertise or describe what the current version is on their website? Does anyone have a more current, non-beta version higher than 14.0.8089?
