So, my printer wasn't printing and I wasn't sure why, so I opened up the printing que thing then went to help>troubleshooter. Except it loads for 1/2 a second then just stops, if I keep doing it sometimes it will pop up then go away real quick.

Same thing happens with help and support.
Posted Image
Those seem to be related.

And THEN, when I run services.msc its just blank. Look at the pic.
Posted Image
So whats up with that.

And also, in IE it seems like Javascript maybe isnt working. Because on google maps, look.
Posted Image
And it will just be loading like that forever. But it DOES work in Firefox.

So any help would be apreciated, thanks. OH, also, I just installed avast, and it seems to have started around that time, but Im not sure, and its the only AV running, but do you think that avast could cause this? I dont think so. Yeah, just saying.

You might try to go back to a Restore Point before you installed Avast and see if this resolves the issue.

I have never had any success with Help Files for printer issues.

Just a thought.

Back when I used XP I'd occasionally have that problem, try restoring your system if you still can.

You could be correct about a virus, but it appears, as you suggested, you may have some missing or corrupted OS files.

Some viruses will remove the restore points and disable Restore as well.

I would suggest a repair install, and see if this resolves the issue.

If it does, I would backup my data files and then do a reformat and fresh install.

Just a thought.

It may be possible that your system came with a Recovery Restore partition.

If it does, you can put the system back as it was when shipped.

Can you advise the Brand and Model number of your system, and we can take a look at your options.

There is a DELLUTILITY partition, but i think its only for recovering the drivers, because this is the only thing in the start menu, and yeah.

Or do you access it when your booting the PC? Im not sure.
Oh, and its a Dell Dimension 2400.
Yeah, I know.... <_<

Boot partitions can be accessed at boot unless your DELL already came with a recovery disk, in that case just back up your data and boot off the disk.

You may be in luck. Be sure to back up all the data you need or can, and then reboot the system.

Immediately when the system boots and you see the Dell logo screen, press the ctrl and F11 keys at the same time.

You should also see a blue line appear at the top of the display for just a second or two.

If you press the keys properly, a screen should appear and give you instructions as how to proceed with the Recovery Restore Utility.

I suggest to choose the reformat method. The Recovery process should continue and complete in about 8-12 minutes. When the system reboots, you will be required to enter all the information as you did when you first received the system.

You would need to go to the Windows update site and download and install all the latest updates.

All the applications that came with your system will be reinstalled. You would need to reinstall any applications you have added.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to say, that no, it will install everything just like it came from Dell.

You then have to uninstall all the bloat and unwanted software that Dell adds, like AOL, many Dell promotional items, etc.

Since it is a drive image that is being restored, it will be put back exactly like it was when you received the system.

The only way to just install Windows, would be from a Windows CD, and that you would have to buy and activate. The Dell Windows version is already activated.

I've done this maybe 100 times, and it works a treat. You just loose all you ever added to the system, so be aware of this before you start.

Hey, can you like copy the iexplorer.exe from your C:/program files/Internet Explorer and just put it in a zip file and attach it here.

Why? It doesn't work unless it's properly installed.

amon91 is exactly correct. Any application cannot just be copied and pasted as an individual file or Folder could be.

An application requires an install, where it puts various files in different locations all over the computer, including the registry.

If you just copied the iexplorer.exe, and the copied it back after the install, you would receive an error about files not being located, or it would not even do that. You most likely would see only a blink on the screen.

Hope this is not too confusing.

It simply would not work. Not to mention it would be against TWF rules. Uploading or posting of copyrighted material is not permitted.

I realize that this is now a rather old topic, and you've probably already reformatted and moved on, but...
What about using a retail disc, doing a repair install, and reusing his original serial? Of course, this requires having a disc with the right SP on it, or knowing someone who does, and I don't know if the system would accept the serial from a Dell OEM install, but I would think it would be worth a try.
