Hi..will be updating to Windows 7 from Vista Home Premium which was installed on the Computer at point
of Sale, in 2007.
Packard Bell 2380...2.40 GHzProcessor....1Gb Ram...32 Bit OS...
Home Office with Word Program etc was also already installed plus a few other Programs.

Now, I will wish to do a Full Clean before installing Win7 and will do a Windows Easy Transfer to an External Hard Drive that is connected all the time to the Computer.

How can I make a full copy of the Home Office and its associated programs ? I will not have back up Disc for them.

Also I am on NTL/Virgin XL Broadband (with ethernet connection)....Will Win 7 automatically recognise this broadband
setup.

Plus, what programs etc are bundled with Win 7 ?

Any help would be appreciated......

1- Actually I'm not sure how you can reliably back up your software when you reformat. Honestly I'd ask who sold your computer, unless someone here comes up with a better solution.

2- Most likely. If your broadband provider gave you software then install it to make sure it works.

3- The common stuff: Windows Media Player, IE, Media Center, Paint, Wordpad and that stuff. Windows Mail, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker aren't built in but you can get it through Windows Live.

It is possible to backup and restore simple programs. But for large applications like Home Office this would be very difficult. Even with the very best advice the likelyhood of doing this successfully are very slim. I would consider this only as a last resort. There are almost certainly going to be better options.

Your broadband connection will probably work without problem. If you have any concerns about this you should contact your provider.

As far as Word Software, There is a Free alternative, Open Office. Fully compatible with Microsoft Word. As for your Broadband connection, All you should need is your drivers for your modem, and your other drivers as well, I suggest downloading those first. Windows 7 does find wireless networks during setup. As for programs coming with windows 7, they're just some ease of access programs, notepad, paint, calculator and a magnifier. I suggest just going into your local retailer and play around any computer they have on display. They should have Windows 7 by now.

Someone else will have to chime in here, but there may be a way to find the serial # for your Office install from within the program. If so, borrow someone else's install disc, but reuse your serial. READ THIS: I am not advocating using someeone else's serial #, that's piracy. I am simply suggesting getting the install files from them. It may also be possible to find a burnable .iso for your office software if you can get your serial number.

If those don't work, then Open Office is now a decent alternative. I used it back during version 1.xx, and wouldn't have given it to someone I didn't like. However, version s3.0 and 3.1 aren't bad software.
