How far did I get?
I thought that the installation was complete.
I got the message "Welcome to Windows Vista SP2"
I accepted the license terms.
I got the message "preparing your computer"

Next message--------"Installation was not successful"
Next message--------"ERROR_NOT_FOUND ( 0x80070490 ) I should be grateful for a solution.

Thank you for replying. I am afraid that it didn't work for me. I did what you advised and the only update available was the SP2. The readiness tool
did not appear so it did not do what I expected.
I attempted to update with the Sp2 but I got exactly the same result as before. Where do you think I went wrong?

Do you think that the following is signifcant--message in the writeup:-
Important. This update is offered on Windows Update only to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve
