Hi There,

I hope someone can help. I've just exported photos from my camera onto my PC. A message came up promting that I had file conflicts and in not so many words I could ignore or replace.

I clicked replace in error and I cannot restore the old photos. I haven't backed up the photos in question and they are not in my deleted items. I have run a system restore in the hope this may make a difference with no luck.

Does anyone know how to restore the lost photos?

Welcome to the forums! No, system restore only restores your system, not your your personal data. There's something you can do though: right-click the folder you had your pictures on and choose "restore previous versions". Go back to an old snapshot when you still had your files.

Right-click > Properties > Previous Versions tab.

Oh, just realized it's only available on Enterprise and Ultimate. As you have no backup you can try data recovery software like PC Inspector File Recovery but without a backup it's hard to get files back, otherwise no one would even bother backing up. Good luck man, try the tool.

I can shed some light for you, There is a program called Tuneup utilities download it, install and use it as a 30 day trial. In verision 2010, Under "Fix Problems" Click on "All Functions" and select "Restore Deleted Files" and run the the Tuneup Undelete wizard. I used this recently to recover multiple GB files lost in the transition of moving to windows 7.

I hate to say that, but I think your case is hopeless. Any of those tools that are and will be suggested rely on the fact that the pictures were written on the disk. But that apparently did not happen in your case. And even if they were, since you do not know the name of the files/folder, it would be impossible to find them. Sorry.

If I'm reading his post right the photos that were deleted were the one already on his drive.
First off, DO NOT defrag your drive, if you already have then all hope is lost.
Limit your saving/opening actions.
When Windows deletes something it actually leaves the data there, but marks the block on the HD as writable, so your info might still be there.
Read here. When you d/l the install files, save them to another partition (hopefully you have one) than the one from which the files were deleted.
