I am helping a friend with his computer and got some puzzling situation. The computer has a wireless card that can connect the router/access point but cannot connect to internet. It keeps showing that cannot establish a connection no matter what url I type. The wired connection works fine. The wireless drivers are up-to-date.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried connecting any other computer to the access point wirelessly? If it doesn't it's most likely the router.

Could you advise the Brand, Model, and wirelesss adapter of the system?

Also which OS are you using. This can make a difference, as they set up a little differently.

Also, you might take a look at any Firewalls that may be preventing this.

If there are any other systems on the network, can they access the Internet?

It looks suspicioulsly like a Firewall issue.

Tried different types of router. Computer running Vista Home Premium. Other computers can access the net. When I run ipconfig, the wireless card gets an IP address.

Can Cisco Network Magic be the cause?

As Hanspuppa said, try turning off your firewall.

You may have hit on the problem.

I have never used Cisco Network Magic, but if the router is acquiring a network address, it almost certainly has to be a firewall issue of some type.

I would look at the Cisco Network Magic program, and either enable access for this computer within the firewall, or turn the firewall off all together.

The router has a hardware firewall already built in, so two are not really needed, and sometimes conflict with one another.
