Welcome to the forums. :) Boot from your Vista disk, select your language/keyboard/etc and then choose "Repair your Computer", it might locate the problem and fix it, depending on what it is. But when did that problem happen? Was it after a driver/software install? Did it just happen by itself?

Hey, I don't have a disc, can i download it free?
It was working perfectly fine, the only thing i did was pull a usb card reader out, but it was working for about 5 hours after that so i don't think it was that? I have also pulled the cf reader out of lots of other laptops so i don't understand why it would make a problem with this one, This isn't my laptop so im hoping i don't have to erase everything on the drive? If i get a vista disc, would it just fix these problems or would it reset the whole laptop?
I had this error once and then the laptop restarted so i tried a system restore to a better point, but then the laptop went off halfway through the system restore and now the laptop won't even start up past this error.

Downloading the Vista disk for free is considered warez and isn't allowed here on the forums. Just in case, try putting the reader back in, who knows. But of course nothing would make you lose your data, you can usually just boot up a Linux distro or BartPE and retrieve your stuff that way. Does it come with a restore disk, or no disk at all?

Computers usually come with a disk that lets you restore to factory settings, that's what I'd use, considering you don't have a full Vista DVD. Remember to back up your data first though (through some live Linux CD or BartPE), otherwise it'll be lost. Honestly I'd wait a little longer, someone else here might have a better idea, but reformatting or restoring back to factory settings can be an easy way out.

Linux Mint is a good distro but it won't help unless you have the recovery disks. Honestly I'd rather ask your family for the restore DVD (or Windows DVD if they have it) so we can roll things back.
