For about two weeks now I get the following message after M/S updates are installed, try again produces no results, any ideas please

There's something on Microsoft's KB here, it's usually the best place to fix stuff. Good luck. (Y)

I tried their suggestions but to no avail, I really do not want to do a [DELL Restore] as this wipes the HD of all files etc, I should mention that for the past 3 mths or so I have been unable to use the Vista System restore,I get the messages:
The disc OS [C:] has errors the (check disc for errors) option produces (windows can’t check the disc while it’s in use) I just cant get past this. I schedule a scan for next start up but this produces nothing so I can't use that to fix it. It seems Vista has more than its share of problems why the heck can't they fix them :angry:
