if your unsure if you computer will play the game check the minimum requirements, but basically if using Vista that requires 1MB DDR2 and u should have another 1MB DDR2 to help run the game. You also need a decent graphics card, good processor etc.

I'm going to assume you meant GB, not MB, right??

not quite sure what you mean citystreet.

If you wondering on what settings to have the game at, when the game loads intially it will set it at the recommended settings that the game chooses from reviewing your PC. See if you have any lag on single player. If not those settings should be good to play online. If you still receive lag on multiplayer there could be either, bad server - i mean a server that is located far away (differeent country) this would be that your ping wil be high. Anything above 120 ping is poor. Aim for 30 - 70 for good performance. A fast broadband is always essential especially for a game like BF2.

When playing the game (or trying) you may receieve some combatibility error messages. Simply right click on the game icon (on desktop or even could be on your programs menu) and then on the compatibility tab check "Run as administrator".

Thank you very much sheepz. I will load the game one day when i have time and if i start having problems i will come back for some more information. Oh and I'm sorry my post was a little vague. Thank you.

Ok i have a new question now... what patches do i get for Battlefield 2? I believe I need patches to play online. I am not sure if I get the 1.3, 1.4, or the 1.41 patch.

All the bf's are working great on vista for me but you may try letting your program put the icon on desktop then right click and under advanced you can change it and tick run as admin (from now on) then it will always be that way. I do not use xp mode or whatever.
Then if you want you can drag the icon to the games folder and then delete the one on the desktop to keep everything organized:)

Okay, I installed battlefield 2 on Vista, it said that the game has only been tested on 32-bit systems, but I finished the instillation anyway without problem. Then I found out about the 1.41 patch, I installed it, it installed without problem.
Okay, I tried to open it, and it showed the game graphic that it shows before it starts up, you know, it says battlefield 2 in real big letters. Then the screen turned black for a second like it was loading the game, but then it just went back to the desktop and nothing happened, no battlefield 2 minimized icon in the task bar or anything. Then i tried running it as admin, and the same thing happened. I did this multiple times, and the same ting always happens. By the way, the game icon is on the desktop, it was the whole time, I told the game to put it there during installation.
Please, does anyone know what I can do to get battlefield 2 to run on my computer running vista premium??? Anything at all would be greatly appreciated, I really want to play this game, I played the demo on my other XP comp before, and I'll do anything to play it on this comp, as my other comp is broken. permanently. I'd like to only use partitioning and installing XP and a last resort only, so don't tell me to do that.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

It won't let you play the game if your comp is too slow? That's stupid. Anyway, I don't think my laptop, which I'm using, is too slow, I mean the video card isn't great, but it should be enough.

I think that Battlefield requires at least shader model 2.0 compliant graphics card. Intel claims that 945GM is shader model 2.0 compliant. Maybe you could try with newer drivers for graphics card.

But I wouldn't bother, if it would run the game in the end it would be too slow to be playable. 945GM is directx compliant just so it could run aero on Vista, it's not for gaming. Maybe RTS games, where it isn't so important to have fluid graphics (although it wouldn't hurt).

Alright dudes,

For those who still can't play and tried EVERYTHING, that's your salvation:

Go to "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default" and open "video.con" using Notepad. Find the section that shows the screen size and refresh rate. Simply change the refresh rate to match your computer and save the file.
In vista hit Control Panel, Personalization - Display Settings - advanced settings - Monitor...there you can see your actual monitor rate.

e.g., if your monitor is 61 Hertz, in Notepad, change the rate to 61 (normally in Notepad says 60, but...edit it), then save, replace? yes.

Test running the game, if not works...click on the admin permission and xp service pack 2 compatibility. Restart PC, should do the job.

If still it doesn't work,

Then...probably your vid card is from Intel, I'm sorry...it won't work. (I might be wrong)

or

Uninstall, clear game regedits, delete files, reinstall, repeat the monitor rate edit, confirm permissions and compatibility then test again.

Good Luck !.

======>ANYONE WHO IS STILL HAVEING PROBLEMS WITH VISTA AND VIDEO GAMES READ THIS<===========

I was having same problems and did everything you guys are saying, ran as admin, put every file on bf2 and other games like WOLFENSTEIN in compatibility mode DID EVERYTHING. and guess what?? its something so easy and thats why everyone gets so confused.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS
1.GO TO WINDOWS LOGO IN BOTTOM LEFT CORNER.
2.OPEN IT AND GO TO CONTROL PANEL IN BOTTOM RIGHT OF THAT MENU ABOVE THE RESTART AND TURN OFF KEY
3.GO TO USERS ACCOUNTS
4.BOTTOM LINE "TURN USER ACCOUNT CONTROL ON/OFF (UAC)
5.TURN THIS OFF AND RESTART COMPUTER.
6. ALL GAMES WILL WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO DO COMPATIBILITY MODE AT ALL. MAKE SURE YOU TURN COMPATIBILITY MODE OFF ON ANY FILES U MAY HAVE HAD IT ON.

NOW YOU MAY EXPERIENCE PUNKBUSTER PROBLEMS AFTER THIS, BUT THIS CAN BE FIXED EASY ALSO.
1.RUN PUNKBUSTER SETUP
http://www.evenbalan...age=pbsetup.php
ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN PAGE LINK JUST RUN IT WHEN U SET UP GAME. AND ALSO AND THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT. YOU MUST!! RUN IT EVERYTIME YOU PLAY YOUR GAME. IF YOU DONT RUN IT YOU WILL GET SOME WIERD MESSAGE ABOUT MISSING/CORRUPTED WINDOWS API FUNCTION WITH LOTS OF NUMBERS LIKE 131144. IF YOU EVER GET THAT PROB JUST CLOSE GAME RUN PUNKBUSTER SETUP ON THAT GAME THEN PLAY AND HAVE FUN

ENJOY GUYS AND LADIES!!! I SPENT 4 MONTHS AFTER I GOT NEW COMP AND VISTA NOT PLAYING MY FAVORITE GAMES LIKE WOLF AND BF2 AND AOE2 BECAUSE I COULD NOT FIND ANYONE TO TELL ME THIS. IF THIS HELPS YOU PLZ FIND ANOTHER FORUM WITH LOST GAMERS AND PASS WORD ON. I COULDA JUST PLAYED BUT WHEN I FIGURED IT OUT I HAD TO HELP OTHERS WITH SAME PROBLEM!!

Hi,

I've had Vista Ultimate less then a week and no problems with Battlefield 2 at all.. Just make sure that you run the game as 'Administrator'

All i can tell is that the game 'Laggs' every 20 - 40 Seconds, nothing major and playable.

Another way of reducing 'lagg' somewhat is to do this:

-> Press the ` Key (The one to the left of the 1 key) then type
-> pb_sleep 500 Press Enter
-> Then type pb_writecfg then press enter.

The pb_sleep 500 makes Punkbuster Scan your HDD every 500 Seconds instead of 20 Seconds (I think)
And the pb_writecfg Saves that Command to your .cfg file. (This way you don't have to type pb_sleep every time you load the game)

(Source: Read Here)

Hope it helps.
