after doing a million things to my router and trying different intel driver for my card, I think I found one that has solved my issues (the topic of this thread)

try this driver if you're having problems version 10.6.0.29

it's working for me awesome and I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Good luck!

Make sure to uninstall what you have installed first. Just google for that version number.

I thought I'd relate why it is that ended up here.

I have internet service through my local cable company here in Xalapa Mexico, which has provided very good service, through the Linksys wireless router I connected to the company's modem in my apartment; and have never had a problem with the wireless connection with my Dell XPS 1330 with the Intel 3945ABG card. Two days ago the cable internet and TV service went down, and it's still down.

When I had no service this morning I rigged up an extra cheap router, with a 5 DBI external antenna to connect to a telephone company ADSL network in an apartment three stories above mine. I placed the antenna on the top of the metal window security grillwork in the stairwell abutting my apartment, fairly close to the apartment directly above mine. It is a bit slower than the cable but it works fine, though it took me a bit to figure out the correct router settings. I may just cancel my cable internet account.

However, I was able to connect with both my Dell Mini 9, with a Broadcom wireless card, and my Dell XPS 1330. But periodically the XPS 1330 would disconnect from the internet with an indication that it could not connect to TCP/IPv6 DNS server. I did not have the same problem with the Mini 9 (which I love, by the way).

I searched the Intel site and read where wireless telephones may cause problems with the wireless connection, so I moved the antenna to the bottom of the grillwork, further away from the apartment above. Since I moved the antenna down the XPS 1330 has been continuously connected. I was even able to complete the Pink Floyd download.

I am no techie and don't know anything about the TCP/IPv6 thing but when I'm connected it indicates "local". So maybe the problem was indeed interference was a telephone or another 2.5 device. The correction of my problem may just be magic, but those having problems might check the locations of wireless telephones, microwaves, and other sources of 2.5 interference relative to your computer.

I've been suffered by this issue for about half a year. It's really lucky that I find you guys, though. I've rolled back driver to 11.1.1.11, l'll let you guys know what happens later ...

Hey everyone,

I've been struggling with this problem for a month now. I've followed every bit of advice from this thread and I've only just stumbled upon a fairly adequate fix. I just wanted to throw it out here in case it helps someone else. Using the (microsoft) drivers btw.

I have an HP Pavilion DV6275 running Vista Home Premium and I've had this notebook since March of 2007. Everything worked perfectly until about a month ago when I did a massive update, massive on account of some "optional" updates I decided to load, in addition to the security updates. Anyhow, that's when everything took a dive on me. And you all know what that means...

I started noticing the wireless switch LED would start to flicker blue/orange (orange is off) if I started opening more windows, browsing high-load pages or using any p2p programs/download managers. And since everyone has claimed it necessary to disable Vista's ability to turn the radio off for "power saving", it got me thinking that it may be related to power. Of course while you're plugged in, power shouldn't be an issue, but if you're on battery, well you know... Even though I'm plugged in, I still have my battery clipped in, and it's got barely enough life to last 2 minutes. I disabled the Vista power shut-off and it made little difference.

So I just took the battery out, leaving the notebook plugged in. I've all but eliminated the problem... just about. So I'm guessing there's a critical battery-life conflict somewhere within the recent updates or BIOS which is causing the problem. Of course this is just something I stumbled upon. Try it out and post your results. And if you're savvy enough, maybe try to find a correlation between Vista's ability to disable the radio and the life of the battery or power management in general. I, unfortunately, am not savvy enough! ;)

anyways, Hope it helps...

Kent

Hi guys,

I've been fighting with this damn wifi card for a month or two. I've tried a lot of things - I think I've installed/reinstalled upgraded/downgraded any combination of driver versions, even restored the original Vista driver. Nothing helped... apart from Kents idea.
I took out my battery and opened 10-15 videos on youtube at once, started uTorrent & eMule, open Miranda IM and checked my Gmail account all in one go - no problems.
I own a HP dv6331 and my problems started just like Kent's. I had some problems with overheating and my DVD-ROM at the time so I asked HP for help. They suggested flashing my BIOS and updating it. After that I also updated to SP1 and kept updating all Vista updates (without aditional driver updates - I did those via Driver Scanner 2009). I kept having problems with my wifi card ever since. Even with the or iginal driver (which was slightly better than the newer drivers, because sometimes I could reconnect after using the connection fixing tools in Vista - with the new drivers I had to reboot).

I'm currently using the 12.2.0.11 driver from 2008-11-17. But I just might update the driver today - just to check it out.

I never use any HP shyteware but I did do a battery test and it said that it should be replaced due to it's bad state.

Anyway - maybe you should try removing the battery and testing how the interweb behaves?
It seems to work for me.

A little update - this method does work much better than updating drivers, but the next day - after about 8 hours of peace - the connection got cut off. Had to restart the comp', then I instatly lost connection; after the second reboot seemed to work OK.

I didnt have an issue with the 3945abg card until I upgraded from vista home premium to ultimate (got it for free). after trying multiple things to fix the issue including a new router and every driver i could find. the new router WRT54G2 has helped but i still have the random connection issue on my gateway M-6843, so I decided to buy a 4965agn card for less than 40 shipped in hopes that it will solve this issue. ill report if back this fixes the connectivity issue.

well I got the new 4965agn card installed and im happy to report that all connectivity issues are a thing of the past. after multiple speed tests hours of surfing and forced connection types from b/g/n, and all performed perfectly with no loss of connectivity.

the driver used is 11.5.0.34 and since its not acting up i dont see the need to update it just yet.

The original cause of this issue was resolved with a driver update some time ago. Topic closed.
